Todd Howard’s long-standing ambition to create a modern Indiana Jones game is finally coming to fruition. Earlier this year, Howard revealed that he had been striving for over a decade to get an Indiana Jones game approved, and now his dream is becoming a reality with MachineGames’ upcoming title, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Howard’s passion for the project was highlighted once again during Xbox’s Gamescom livestream, where MachineGames’ creative director, Axel Torvenius, and design director, Jens Andersson, discussed how The Great Circle came to life. It’s clear that Howard has been a driving force behind this much-anticipated game.

“It all began with Todd Howard’s vision,” Torvenius explained. “Todd had a long-held dream of creating a fresh and engaging Indiana Jones game. He presented his narrative concept to LucasFilm Games, who were enthusiastic about it. Todd then approached MachineGames, confident that they were the right team for the project. The excitement within MachineGames was palpable when we were given the chance to work on this game.”
Howard, serving as an Executive Producer for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, has shown immense enthusiasm for the project, as evidenced by his high energy during the game’s reveal. Both Howard and MachineGames have praised LucasFilm for their support and excitement regarding the upcoming game.
During the interview, Torvenius highlighted the “invaluable” support LucasFilm has provided, guiding MachineGames and ensuring they stay on course. He emphasized that while Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will satisfy long-time fans of the franchise, the game is also designed to be appealing to newcomers who might be intrigued by the project.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set to release on December 9 for PC and Xbox Series X/S, with a PlayStation 5 release scheduled for sometime in Spring 2025.
